The Noor Al Hussein Foundation (NHF) and Muath Bin Jabal Municipality have signed a memorandum of understanding to renovate the central bus station and to build 12 new retail kiosks in Northern Ghor (Jordan Valley) district.

This initiative comes as a direct response to local residents needs and was highlighted as a priority infrastructure project to be implemented under the Poverty Pockets Empowerment Program funded by MoPIC. A lack of public transportation facilities has negatively impacted residents’ access to health and educational services.

"The renovation work will also help to enhance economic opportunities among local communities”, commented Hana Mitri Shahin, KHF Executive Director.

Once the renovation is complete, the retail kiosks will be rented out for minimal fees to physically challenged entrepreneurs who want to launch their own micro businesses.

Since 2006, NHF and the Ministry of Planning and International Cooperation (MoPIC) have been working together to establish income generating enterprises for CBOs and local municipalities with the ultimate goal of reducing poverty in selected local communities by establishing income generating projects for individuals and  CBOs, through capacity building, and by improving the infrastructure of public services.
