The NCCA and the Family Development Foundation announce the launch of Sheikha Fatima Bint Mubarak International Award for Arab Youth

The National Center for Culture and Arts (NCCA) and the Family Development Foundation, Abu Dhabi announced the launch of Sheikha Fatima Bint Mubarak International Award for Arab Youth at a press conference held on May 7, 2012 at the NCCA in Amman.

The award was announced last year as an initiative by Her Highness Sheikha Fatima Bint Mubarak at the 31st International Arab Children Congress in Abu Dhabi, marking the first time the Congress was held outside of Jordan. This year the Congress has been renamed the International Arab Youth Congress (IAYC) to reflect the 14-16 year old age range of the participants.

The winners of the Award for Arab Youth will be honored during the 32nd IAYC, which will be held under the patronage of Her Majesty Queen Noor in Jordan from July 12-18th, 2012.

Ms. Sheikha Al Jabiri, Director of Media and Communication at the Family Development Foundation, said the objectives of the award are to enhance the sense of pride and belonging in the Arab world, as well as to honor and recognize the competencies and creativity of Arab youth around the world. The award also aims to encourage community service, leadership and excellence.

Professor Hadi Al Tijani, the Award Consultant and Executive Director of Abu Dhabi International Center for Organizational Excellence, explained the details of the award.

The contest is open to all Arab youth, ageds 14-17, regardless of country of residence. In addition, one category is dedicated to recognizing pioneering Arab and international organizations working to enhance the well-being of Arab youth. 

The three prize categories are:

The Arab Youth Award for Global Impact, dedicated to youth who demonstrate outstanding leadership skills and whose achievements have global impact.  One winner will receive $20,000.

The Arab Youth Award for Distinction, dedicated to distinguished youth who have implemented valuable initiatives in their communities with tangible results. Six winners will be awarded $10,000.

The Award for Pioneering Organizations Dedicated to Arab Youth Issues, to honor Arab and international organizations that have implemented projects and programs that address youth well-being and support Arab children. Three organizations will be presented a trophy.

All winners will also receive a certificate of appreciation signed by Her Highness Sheikha Fatima Bint Mubarak and Her Majesty Queen Noor Al Hussein.

NCCA Director Ms. Lina Attel commended the vision and relentless support of Her Majesty Queen Noor to the IAYC.  Attel also expressed her gratitude to Her Highness Sheikha Fatima Bint Mubarak for initiating the award and providing Arab Youth with an opportunity to become ambassadors of creativity and excellence. 

Attel remarked, ”This award has enhanced the International Arab Youth Congress and given us an opportunity to build on the invaluable collaboration with the Family Development Foundation, represented by its Director General, Ms. Mariam Al Rumaithi."
