December 17 2024

Dead Sea, Jordan – December 11-12, 2024

The Information and Research Center (IRCKHF) hosted a two-day conference “Enhancing Policies for Sexual and Reproductive Health for the Most Vulnerable in Jordan”, which convened key stakeholders at the Dead Sea. The event brought together the Ministry of Health (MoH), the Higher Council for the Rights of Persons with Disabilities (HCD), Sharia Courts, and other leading partners from civil society and academia to address critical reproductive health challenges.

Discussions centered on improving policies and services for marginalized groups, including women, children, and persons with disabilities. Participants reviewed existing regulations and proposed updates to maternal and child health guidelines to safeguard reproductive rights. They also explored innovative approaches to integrating sexual and reproductive health into national frameworks, such as establishing a national advisory committee on AIDS. Interactive workshops fostered collaboration among stakeholders, emphasizing the need to address systemic barriers and create inclusive health systems capable of meeting the unique needs of vulnerable communities.

Key recommendations included drafting binding hospital protocols for uterus removal in women and girls with mental disabilities, updating Maternity and Childhood Regulations, and establishing a national advisory committee on AIDS. These steps mark a significant milestone in Jordan’s commitment to equitable and inclusive healthcare.
