Following a 2017 study on the experiences of young refugees transitioning into adulthood in Jordan and Uganda, the Information and Research Center has recently published, an
article
in the
Oxford Journal of Refugee Studies,
reflecting on “The Effects of Limited Work Opportunities on Transitions to Adulthood among Young Refugees in Uganda and Jordan”. The article draws from qualitative and quantitative participatory action research where young Palestinian, Iraqi and Syrian refugees were trained to conduct research with their peers. The research highlights how legal restrictions on employment hinder the ability for youth to become financially independent and more so, the ability to achieve the social recognition associated with adulthood.
