Amman, November 14, 2024

KHF’s reinforced its commitment to fostering inclusive communities that prioritize resilience, dignity, and accessibility for all, by its active participation at the Multi-Regional Global Disability Pre-Summit, which kicked off in Amman under the patronage of His Highness Prince Mired, president of the Higher Council for the Rights of Persons with Disabilities (HCD). Represented by the Institute for Family Health and the Information and Research Center, KHF joined a diverse assembly of Arab and international experts, advocates, and stakeholders to explore critical issues, innovative solutions, and actionable recommendations for advancing disability rights and accessibility.

With an estimated 1.3 million persons with disabilities in Jordan—more than half of whom are women and youth facing heightened barriers to rights and services—the summit underscored the urgent need for holistic, gender-sensitive solutions.

Dr. Ayman Halasa and Dr. Ibrahim Aqel contributed to a panel discussion by presenting KHF’s integrated support models for persons with disabilities and survivors of gender-based violence. These models, grounded in evidence-based research on reproductive and sexual health rights, highlight pioneering initiatives such as accredited Centers of Excellence by HCD, music therapy, and STEAM education in Braille and sign language.  Additionally, the panel recognized IFH’s key role in developing Jordan’s first national standards of operations on reproductive, sexual, mental health, and rehabilitation services in collaboration with HCD and other multiple partners.

The event laid vital groundwork for the Global Disability Summit in Berlin, scheduled for April 2025.
